Alternatives to Chrome Plating

Q. I am an industrial engineering student at Iowa State University. I am working on a class project about the chrome industry. I have found a wealth of useful information through this site but am curious as to what alternatives there are to chrome plating. If a product is to look like chrome but the consumer can not afford chrome plating, what other products are there for them to consider?

A. I try to do everything I can to promote the continued use of industrial chromium electroplating. It always has been an excellent value, considering the impressive deposit properties. My forum at sterc.org is intended to help existing platers, not find alternatives to the coating.
